Great Blue Heron Wading in Shallow Water

Description

I remember watching herons as a child as they silently waded through the murky waters of the wetlands surrounding my home. I never actually photographed them and was more concerned with chasing dragonflies through the field with my macro lens. I lived in Maryland at the time this was taken and began to appreciate the stealth and grace of these beautiful birds. The sun was obscured by gray skies but provided just enough light to illuminate the water against the body of this heron as it took a break from fishing.
