Coming Out of Sleep
Description
I was able to use my 600mm lens once, in this moment, due to the child-like curiosity of these feral ponies. These pint-sized sweethearts roam freely through the mountains and graze alongside thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Unlike the ponies of Assateague, they’re attracted to people and many will approach you even if you back away. I had several photos of this mare resting in snow during golden hour but it took me months to decide on a keeper. She dozed as the sun set and, without warning, lifted her ears and met eyes with me before she returned to sleep.
