Whitetail - Jefferson National Forest

The weather in Grayson Highlands State Park was unusually warm for December but the heat did nothing to change the fact that it was hunting season and I ventured deeper into the woods with caution. Two does realized I was watching them and I trailed behind, stopping when they stopped and wincing with the snap of each branch, for forty minutes until I could catch up. In the back of my mind I thought, “I’m really going to be shot today,” but my patience and courage paid off when one of the does raised her head with her ears facing the direction where I was crouching in the dense underbrush.
